Handbell ringing is a very unique musical art. We call it ministry because it seeks to minister to the needs of both the congregation and the ringers.

The Christ Church Ringers

Christ Church has supported our handbell ensemble for many years, going back at least 25 years. When the church had a fund drive for the purchase of the bells and equipment many donors came on board with funds to “buy a bell”. Presently we have a set of 5 octaves of handbells and handchimes, with 3 very low bass chimes. The ensemble has had four directors through the years, with John Neve, the current director, starting in 2008. Our mission is to provide music for worship, which hopefully will be meaningful and will bring an added dimension to the worship experience.

Purposeful Selection and Recognition

The repertoire is chosen by the director, with the goal of selecting music that is within the capabilities of the ringers, but at the same time seeks to improve the overall advancement of the members and provide a challenge. The funds for many of our pieces have been donated by our worshippers, who are then recognized either in honor or in memory of loved ones.

Handbell Ringing

Handbell ringing is a unique musical art. We call it a ministry because it seeks to minister to the needs of both the congregation and the ringers. We consider it a “musical” because it brings together ringers with varied talent and ringing experience, and provides a beautiful musical product that only a group of ringers, working together, can make happen. We believe we make an impact on our congregation as we bring service music to the congregation at least once a month. This works both ways, as it also provides great satisfaction and joy to the ringers. It is hoped that each ringer has some knowledge of counting, reading music, and the physical ability to use their hands, bodies, and brains to successfully bring the music to life. Love of ringing and self-improvement are also important.

United in Purpose

We believe that the Lord has a significant plan for our lives when we were put together. We believe God had a reason for giving us a task to do together. As a community of believers, we learn from one another, pray with and for one another, worship together, and support one another. Together, we make a great team! We are grateful to the Christ Church congregation for supporting this ministry for all these years, and are hopeful that it will continue for many more years.
